About Sand Island

This series of dive sites are located just off shore and consists of several different features one of which is a large sandy plateau with various rocks scattered across the sea floor.Located to the left of the entry points at a depth of 23 meters is the beginning of a large reef which is covered in a variety of marine growth. The beach on the left of this area opposite the Ranger Station is a breeding ground for turtles and it is banned for one to step foot on the beach, this forbidden beach area is comprised primarily of shells.Marine life around these areas include Lionfish, Cuttlefish, Puffers, Damsel fish, Dartfish, Groupers, Rays, Gobies and much more. It is reported that in the area of turtle breeding grounds on the left beach there are often fishermans nets which is an illegal activity so if you come across such nets be sure to report them to the Ranger Station
