The Tararua was a old Steel Hulled New Zealand Steamer. She was enroute from Port Charles to Melbourne when she steered into heavy weather and sea conditions. For several hours the crew fought against this weather, waiting for another vessel, the 'Soccur' to come help them. This vessel never showed up. Eventually the Tararua struck a reef and sank. This incident happened on April 28, 1881. Its a beautiful wreck dive with lots to see. Corals envelopes this wreck along with surrounding marine life in abundance.
