The KT-12 was a German war ship built in Livorno (Italy) and was intended to be used as a supply ship destined for North Africa. The ship was delivered on May, 19th 1943. Already on its first trip on July, 10th 1943 it was attacked by the English submarine HMS Safari. The torpedo hit the ship at the prow, which sunk immediately. However the rest of the Ship drifted for another 41min until it sunk. The wreck now lays upright at 33m of depth, surrounded by remains of the cargo. There is the possibility to enter the wreck and observe the hold, which still has several barrels in it. A ship once accidentaly threw an anchor which got stuck in the starbord side of the wreck. Therefore the anchor-chain which had to be cut lies over the whole deck of the wreck. Because of the weight, parts of the wreck collapsed. Therefore a passage to the engine-room, got stuck. Now the engine-room can only be entered directly from the top of the stern. On deck there still is a well preserved board-canon at the stern. The steering wheel can be observed, as well as the foundation of the chimney. Despite the age of the wreck and the damage which occurred because of the anchor-chain it is well preserved, and definitely one of the best Mediterranean wrecks.
