About Kolovri

Jutting out of the water some 30 metres, with depths around up to 70 metres, this rocky islet has a variety of excellent dives all around. The most stunning feature is a rocky arch which cuts through the islet from 15metres depth down to over 25 at the west side. The west side is a wall dive with small caves, some of which have the roof lined with shrimps. To the south two submerged rocks break the gentle northern current with a deep gully between them and a small hole (around 1 metre diameter)leading from east to west into a huge funnel shaped cave 42 metres deep inside, rising to the huge western entrance then dropping to 70 metres outside. Based on local experience, this can be an intermediate dive on some of the dive locations around the islet, or more challenging for the more experienced at other parts of the dive. The first submerged rock to the south is known as Monument as it carry's a plaque to the memory of a German Diving Doctor. At the southern end of the last rock it plunges down past 70 metres though there is generally a shallower plateau to the east towards the island at 30 to 40 metres. The underwater scenery can be amazing even though the visibility struggles around 25 to 30 metres at times. The light through the arch, which has a roughly 90 degree turn in the middle , plays with the perspective as you swim through in mid water seeing the roof 10 metres above and the floor 10 metres below. This is one of my favourite dives. Many thanks to my friends at Achilleon from Paleocastritsa for my diving here.
