About Turtle Street

This site can be found half a mile off the west end of Kaiaka Bay at depths varying from 25 to 30 feet. The site is at a coral reef and is characterized by a variety of overhangs and arches. On top of the shelf is a huge crack (60 yards wide by 100 yards long) which houses a school of about 15 to 20 porcupine fish. At the centre of the shelf several formations ascend into the arches, tubes and caves of the reef. This site, Turtle Street, is so called because of the topographical anomaly and the inhabitants of the formation. The site provides an amazing opportunity to photograph the six very tame turtles occupying the reef, as well as the lobsters nestled in the many pukas of Turtle Street.
