About Schurz

The wreck of the Schurz is sometimes known as the 'WWI' or the 'Geier'. The Schurz is contiguous and lies on its keel, listing slightly towards the port side. The greatest relief on the wreck is provided by the boilers. The wreck is more or less flat from the boilers towards the stern. Although this wreck is small one can sometimes get turned around by the large schools of baitfish inhabiting the site. In the last few years the quality of the wreck has dropped due to overdiving and overdigging but, if you dive on a day when no other divers are diving, the wreck is still very pretty because of the generally clear water and large amounts of fish.
