About Mt. Storm Lake

Nestled within the mountains of West Virginia, Mt Storm Lake is a fresh water reservoir located at an altitude of 3200 feet. The water is used as a cooling component for the local power plant, so a constant temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit is enjoyed throughout the year with temperatures reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer months. This is a popular site for dive training and open water classes throughout the year. There are three wooden deck platforms that were built to help with the dive classes. The first deck is at a depth of 25 feet. The second and third are at depths of 50 feet and 90 feet respectfully. The deck platforms measure about 10 feet by 10 feet. At the first deck, you can find swarms of catfish waiting to be hand fed bread. With some exploration, a diver can find a sunken vintage Honda motorcycle, a desktop computer and monitor, a grove of Christmas trees and some old quarry equipment. Care should be taken not to stir up the muddy bottom. There is ample parking with porta-potties provided as well. This dive site is located in the north-east part of the lake. Due to the remoteness of this dive location, cell service is virtually nonexistent. Large windmills dot the mountain ridges and the roads leading into the town of Mt. Storm are winding and scenic.
