The Monrovia was built in Scotland,Glasgow, in 1943 and originally served as a Liberty Ship, operated by a Greek Crew. June 25, 1959, enroute to Chicago from Belgiu, she ran into heavy fog and collided with the Royalton. She sank on her maiden voyage on the Great Lakes. Today she sits upright and fairly intact, home to a wide variety of marine life.
