About Gwalia Wreck

The Gwalia was built in 1907 and served as a ocean going Tug. In December 1925 she left the port along with the 'Altamaha' barge enroute to Tampa. Along the way, she started taking in water, resulting in the crew freeing the 'Altamaha' and abandoning the ship. The Gwalia sank and the Altamaha were lost at sea with 22 sailors. On 14 December, a Coast Guard Cutter found her 130 miles west of Tampa. The crew members survived for 8 days. Its a beautiful wreck dive with lots to see and explore. Here you will also find many interesting artifacts.
