The Appomattox was a wooden hulled bulk Steamer, and the largest of its kind ever built for the Great Lakes. On 2 November 1905 she was towing the Santiago, both fully loaded with coal cargo, when they ventured into heavy smoke. They steered into a rocky bottom. here you will also find the wreck of the Iowa which encountered the same mistake. its a beautiful dive with lots to explore.
