About Swiftsure

The SS Swiftsure was a British Wooden Hulled Vessel. She was used as a Coal Carrier. On October 8 , 1886 she left the harbor of Gibraltar after loading supplies and was never heard from again. As time passed, several interesting items, such as her lifebuoys and name plates washed ashore. In december 1886 she was officially reported as missing and it was believed that the vessel may have sunk in the Bristol Channel. Years later the remains of her wreck has been found and positively confirmed to be the Swifshure. She lies in shallow water and is easily accessible by all level divers.
