About Shark Bank

The dive site is sometimes referred to as 'South Rock', but more commonly now called Shark Bank, and if you are lucky enough to get an opportunity to dive it, you will see why. The dive site lies east of Lucy Vale and the mainland, and south of Little Tobago, in a fairly exposed open area which can experience rough waves and strong currents. The dive begins at the southern end of the rocks, which we will circum navigate, in a clockwise direction. This is a negative entry dive, and once in the water we head straight down past the upper white water and surface currents. The DiveMaster may change the course of the dive, so it is important to stay in view of him at all times, as we will follow the current at all times, and these are known to change at short notice. The bottom depth of the dive will be around 30m (98 ft), and as we travel in a clockwise direction we will slowly spiral up to shallower water. There is an abundance of sponges and corals on this dive, including Rope Sponges, Barrel Sponges, Encrusting Sponges, Sea Fans, Sea Rods and Sea Plumes. The usual extensive array of fish can be found here from Parrotfish, Damselfish, Gobies, Blennies, Snappers, Groupers, ..... the list goes on. All these things are not the reason we've come to this dive site, as the name suggests, we are here to see pelagics and more specifically Shark. There is a very good chance on nearly all dives to see, Nurse Shark, Black Tip Reef Shark, Tarpon, Barracuda, and many other large fish, as well as turtles. Shark Bank is one of the dives that just can't be missed, but unfortunately the weather and currents dictate when it can be dived.
