About Ricasoli Cannons

Ricasoli Cannons is a unique dive site located in Kalkara, on the eastern side of Malta. The site is named after the three cannons found in a sea cavern on the seaward side of Fort Ricasoli. Two of the cannons are approximately 3 meters long and 1 meter in diameter, while the larger one measures about 4.5 meters long and 1.2 meters in diameter. The cavern features a hole in the roof, which collapsed along with the cannons, allowing ample light to penetrate the cave. The depth inside the cave is only 2-3 meters, making it a shallow dive.

The reef outside the cave extends to a depth of 12 meters. Divers are advised to be cautious of boat traffic due to the site's proximity to the Grand Harbour entrance. It is recommended to always carry a DSMB and stay close to the shore in shallow water. Given the manageable depths and conditions, this site is suitable for beginner divers. The dive site type is classified as a reef.
