About MV Xlendi

The MV Xlendi is a former Gozo Channel Line cargo ferry that now serves as an artificial reef and diving attraction off the shore of Xatt l-Ahmar in southeastern Gozo. The 80-meter long wreck lies on a sandy slope, with depths ranging from 32 meters at the propellers to 44 meters on the sea side. Despite its unstable and unsafe condition, the MV Xlendi offers an intriguing dive site for experienced divers, with abundant fish life surrounding the wreck. A car wreck can also be found nearby on the shore side.

The MV Xlendi was built in Denmark in 1955 and operated as a ferry until 1997. It was scuttled in November 1999 to create Gozo's first artificial reef. Two other wrecks, the MV Karwela and MV Cominoland, were scuttled nearby in 2006. All wrecks can be accessed from the shore or by boat. Another notable dive site in the area is Xlendi Bay, which features a beautiful tunnel cave and a reef with a pinnacle. The MV Xlendi wreck lies approximately 60 meters west from the MV Karwela.
