The Junkers Ju 88 is a World War II airplane wreck dive located approximately 3 km off Bahar ic-Caghaq, Malta. This German twin-engine bomber, measuring about 15 m in length and 20 m in wingspan, lies at a depth of 55 metres on a sandy seabed. The wreck is well preserved, despite some damage caused by trawl nets, with the tail section intact and situated about 50 m from the main fuselage. This dive site is recommended for technical divers and requires a special permit managed by Heritage Malta.
The Junkers Ju 88 was discovered in 2009 and opened to divers on 1st May 2019. There is another Junkers Ju 88 airplane wreck off Marsaskala at a depth of 106 m. Other technical airplane wreck dives in the area include the B-24 Liberator Bomber at 55 m, Fairey Swordfish at 70 m, and Douglas A-1 Skyraider at 96 m depth. For recreational divers interested in airplanes, shallower wreck dives between 32 and 42 m deep are available, featuring wrecks such as the Bristol Beaufighter, Bristol Blenheim Bomber, Mosquito Fighter Bomber, and Lockheed P2V Neptune.
