About Junkers Ju 88

The Junkers Ju 88 is a World War II airplane wreck dive site located a few kilometres off Marsaskala, Malta. This German twin-engine bomber, measuring approximately 15 m in length with a 20 m wingspan, rests at a depth of 106 metres. The wreck sits upright on a sandy seabed, almost intact, suggesting a controlled ditching. There is some damage in the nose section, and the tail shows possible signs of attempts to shoot the airplane down. This dive site is suitable for technical trimix divers and requires a special permit managed by Heritage Malta.

There are other technical airplane wreck dives in Malta, including another Junkers Ju 88 wreck off Bahar ic-Caghaq at 55 m depth, B-24 Liberator Bomber at 55 m depth, Fairey Swordfish at 70 m, and Douglas A-1 Skyraider at 96 m depth. For recreational divers interested in airplane wrecks, shallower dive sites include Bristol Beaufighter, Bristol Blenheim Bomber, Mosquito Fighter Bomber, and Lockheed P2V Neptune, with depths ranging between 32 and 42 m.
