About USS Emmons DD 475

The USS Emmons was a WW11 Minesweeper. She had previously engaged in the 'Operation Overlord as well as the 'Operation Dragoon' in France. She survived both these battles. On April 6 1945, while assisting her burning sister ship, The USS Rodman, five kamakazi planes crashed into her in less then two minutes. At this time, most of her superstructure was gone, several crew members killed, severly damaged and paralyzed, she drifted away while taking fire from The USS Ellyson, sending her to her watery grave. Today she is resting in deep water, close to Kouri Jima. Due to the depth and unpredictable currents, this wreck is recommended for advanced level divers only. She is decorated in coral growth and hosts a large array of marine life. Been under water for more then 60 years and she still remains a beautiful dive, guaranteed to thrill and excite any diver.
