About Lambata Island

The headland next to Lamalera Village is so interesting that it is worth a few days diving in itself. A good route to take is through the boulders and coral of the depths, where reef sharks hide. Common sightings at this site include parrotfish, schools of fusilier, and large angelfish. It is worth taking a closer look at some of the gorgonians in the area as they are often inhabited by pygmy seahorses. Lamalera is one of the two remaining whaling villages in Flores so there is the slight possibility of seeing a whale.
