Wakatobi's 'House Reef' is often called 'the best house reef in the world'. You can dive from a point roughly 20 meters from your bed. The beginning of the dive is a relaxed swim along a sandy bottom where you will see snake eels, flounder, shrimp gobies, and blue-spotted rays. There is a resident school of trevally at the drop-off, where you can drop to a depth of 12 meters in order to observe the as yet unnamed species of pygmy seahorse which inhabit a sea fan. The next part of the dive is a gentle drift along the rocky wall on which there are many unspoiled corals and anemones inhabited by shrimps, nudibranchs and crabs. At this section of the dive you can see a huge variety of marine life including scorpionfish, lionfish, batfish, turtles, and eagle rays. This dive is also great in the evening - remember to take a torch!
