About Drop-Off

This site (known as the Drop Off) was formed by an old lava flow from Mount Agung which leads out from an onshore temple. The wreck is located at the opposite end of the bay from the Drop Off. You start the dive on a steep slope which is frequented by nudibranchs, shrimp and flounder at about 10 meters. You can also see large sponges, lionfish, and more shrimp. If you head right the slope eventually becomes a reef which, in turn, becomes a steep vertical wall at about 15 meters (and then drops to deeper than 60 meters). A fantastic attraction at this reef is the sea fan (at a depth of around 28 meters) which is nearly 2 meters across and is inhabited by pygmy seahorses. This site is great in the morning at low tide and, when conditions are good, visibility at the Drop Off can reach 20 meters. The location ensures that there will be little or no current. The fish life is similar to that of the nearby Liberty Wreck (which can feature almost everything in any Indo-Pacific guidebook) but, because it's a larger wreck, it also features white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, humphead parrotfish, octopus, and moray eels. You can also see a wide variety of lionfish when diving the wreck in the afternoon.
