Avalon Peninsula is considered to be be a divers' paradise because of its abundance of marine wildlife. The Avalon Peninsula is an irregularly shaped peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic from the southeast corner of the Newfoundland (NFLD) mainland, and attached to by a narrow strip of land that connects the two large land areas. The isthmus shrinks to 4.8 kilometers in some places.
