About The Leap To The Steps

Watch your step heading down the cliff form the parking lot here - it can be dangerous. The entry point is known as The Leap. The dive can be conducted by heading NE through the kelp until it thins out and where the topography gets a bit rocky until the drop off to 20m. There's a current at the 14 mark of the ledge which will take you to your destination. The site sports plenty of sea dragons and other wonderful; marine creatures in the nooks and crannies. You'll even catch a pregnant male in the right season if you're lucky. Around 20minutes into your dive you'll see a 3m cut in the rock which you can follow back up to 14m exploring its swim throughs until you decide to return to the direction of the current. After this the sandy line becomes lush with plenty of macro action. A good measure here is to keep an eye on your tank and if it's more than 120bar carry on and have fun. Head across to the exit point at 'The Monument'. If you don't have enough air, around the end point you'll find a 'flight' of steps which is the marking that will tell you you're a meter right of the exit ashore. This lies next to an overhang where you can pull yourself into the platform. Visibility here is generally 9m, but even a bad day at 3m, there's still lots to see. If you do this dive as a drift, you'll need to keep an eye on the currents so they can play along. Enter the water at Fort Denison in the harbour in Sydney around one and a half hour before high tide. Or you can do it as a drift by boat at 34° 00' 22.5" S 151° 13' 41.3" E.
