About Mahon Pool

Best way to get there is from the North Marouba car park off Marine Paradedown to Mahon Pool. The dive can be considered one of the more thrilling in Sydney and requires qualified experienced divers who have the grit to prove they know what they're on about. Don't bother going if your dive buddy doesn't fit the bill. Its wild, be warned. The entry and exit are the flat rock and the swim out to the site itself it far so you need to be good with your air. It starts with a short 7m drop off past the reef top and a canyon 12m down. The bottom has lots of canyons and gulley's with a tunnel around 75m in. Around 18 the topography is channels and walls mostly but as it slopes the life gets lush on the flatter reef with boulders. The schools of fish are abundant and the good sponge comes along around 100m into the dive. If you have to you can do this dive of a boat in shallow waters as a novice. Tip though if you reach the 100m mark and your air is low this is a good time to turn around. Head back along the south edge and keep along the gutter. West for 40m will take you to a wall north of which are two cuts. The furthest is the exit point. Surface and once you have orientated head back down and along the bottom ito the slit until the rock is ahead and the tide can do the rest.
