The location is known as Gordon's Bay (locals know it as Thompsons Bay) Named after the mayor of Randwick since 1873, John Thompson, and a government surveyor Lewis Gordon who owned the area to which the bay belongs. Unfortunately due to spear fishing and a chain guide which affect the marine life from coming and going as well as the sea urchins having been removed from the delicate balance of the ecosystem resulting in an overgrowth of other species. A dive adjacent to Clovelly Pool and Shark Point, this spot is best dives in low tide. Heading out into the middle of the bay is a 10m drop off which you can follow right and then circumnavigate. The visibility is good here and can reach to 15m. The site is also fondly known as Thommos , and can be accessed on the southernmost end of Clovelly's car park. The ramp provided can be utilised for exits and entries tide- depending. The dive can be conducted by heading out south and then east when the sandy patch begins and then west again after which there is a '�wall '�to the right. You can head back to the starting point from here by heading a bit east of north. Or you can start the dive along the sandy ledge westward to the ocean. The reef here is interesting. Return to where you began by going north. At night a good point of reference are the north-western street lights.
